Shevington Parish Council represents a number of distinct communities including Shevington, Appley Bridge, Gathurst, Shevington Moor, Crooke Village and Shevington Vale.
Each area has its own identity, needs and challenges. The Parish Council’s role is to work across the whole parish, balancing priorities and investment to ensure all parts of the community are represented and supported.
As one of only two Parish Councils in Wigan, we are proud to represent our community. Councillors are volunteers working alongside the parish clerk and the Parish Council:
The Parish Council is responsible for local services and community-focused projects, including:
Managing and maintaining parish-owned land, parks and open spaces
Allotments and allotment tenancy management
Supporting community groups and local events
Small-scale environmental improvements (planting, benches, signage)
Christmas lighting and community initiatives
Local grant funding (where budgets allow)
Representing local views on planning applications (we do not make the final decision)
Managing parish finances and setting the parish precept
Publishing agendas, minutes and financial information
Acting as a first point of contact for local issues and signposting residents where needed
The Parish Council focuses on local priorities, day-to-day quality of life, and projects that directly benefit the community.
